The Intern Dilemma: How KEWOTA Offers a Professional Solution for Junior School Teachers

KEWOTA OPENS ITS DOORS TO JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS: By Peter Amunga

JSS INTERN TEACHERS cannot be unionisable by law.

They can’t join a union as long as they are interns. That is the bitter truth Knut and KUPPET is not telling those teachers.

They have genuine issues and concerns that need to be addressed. They needed a platform from which to speak through. That platform cannot be unions.

That is why the hype and heat that was building up over JSS INTERN TEACHERS has suddenly gone silent without a proper amicable solution. Unions could not help.

Many of those teachers had rushed to KUPPET and had hoped kuppet will use it’s base of being post primary to help them get p n p. They even organised strikes, which by law were illegal.

But there is hope.

This opening weeks we are seeing the Kenya Women Teachers as a major stakeholder in the education sector, drive a spirited drive to enlighten jss teachers that all is not lost.

Most of their complaints are welfare issues. Kewota was formed to sort out welfare issues amongst teachers.

That’s why there is need for sensitisation of the newly employed teachers JSS on why they need KEWOTA more than they need unions and more so they need the welfare products of KEWOTA such as KEWOTA microfinance and Insurance and the laptop training and new CBC book publications and materials provided online via KEWOTA.

Kiambu KEWOTA Coordinator , Nancy Muhindi is taking time visiting jss schools and explaining to the anxious JSS TEACHERS the benefits of the Association and how JSS can directly and indirectly benefited from the Association since it was established.

KEWOTA microfinance, a business solutions arm which has been established provide financial support through table banking and loans with the lowest interests caught the attention of the new teachers who were eager to know more and more.

During the Kiambu sensitisation meetings number of JSS teachers filled forms and joined KEWOTA.
