What Has KEWOTA Been Up To?
From bold mental health interventions to building digital momentum among young teachers, June has been a powerful month for KEWOTA. Here’s a recap of the impactful stories that defined the heartbeat of our movement.

Education Meets Environment: KEWOTA CEO Joins First Lady’s Green Mission

In a momentous show of partnership between education and climate consciousness, KEWOTA CEO Benta Opande joined the First Lady’s team for the launch of the 2025 Mazingira Awards (FLAMA) on World Environment Day at Lenana School.
“Clean environments breed excellence,” Opande stated. Backed by KEPSHA and KNUT officials, she emphasized that learners thrive where schools are healthy and green.
This aligns directly with KEWOTA’s commitment to holistic wellbeing for teachers and learners — because great education starts with a great environment.
Mental Health Support Where It’s Needed Most: Gachie, Umoja, and Beyond

In the face of rising teacher mental health concerns, KEWOTA stepped in with care, compassion, and counseling.
Following the tragic suicide of a second teacher at Gachie Secondary in two months, KEWOTA led a special support visit, holding emotional healing sessions for students and teachers with professional psychologists.
The impact was deep. Students opened up about grief and life struggles; teachers admitted to burnout and pressure. CEO Opande shared her own story of resilience and offered hope to all.
KEWOTA was also present during the teacher’s burial and at Umoja Secondary following another similar loss — reaffirming that we don’t just stand with teachers in class, but in crisis too.
Digital Revolution in Kisumu: Young Teachers, Big Vision

Kisumu witnessed something special this month. Over 13 digital ambassadors and JSS teacher leaders met with KEWOTA to launch a bold conversation on mental health, communication, and the role of young teachers in shaping the future.
CEO Opande called it a “new frontier,” and with the upcoming Young Teachers’ Fun Day already in the works, a wave of youthful energy is sweeping through Kisumu’s education space.
Real Conversations with Real Teachers: Nyakach & Kadibo AGMs

True to our promise, KEWOTA showed up — big time — for JSS teachers across Kadibo and Nyakach in Kisumu.
Over 400 teachers gathered for AGMs where KEWOTA facilitated talks on table banking, mental health, and digital transformation.
Better yet, many teachers joined KEWOTA on the spot. And we capped it off with support for the Kenya Special Needs Sports Association at Kibos. When KEWOTA says we walk with teachers, we mean it.
When a Teacher Fell, KEWOTA Helped Him Stand Again

Teacher Jeckonia Danga was critically ill with a brain clot. He wasn’t a KEWOTA member. But that didn’t stop CEO Benta Opande from acting.
Through her intervention, Jeckonia was transferred to Aga Khan Hospital and underwent brain surgery — free of charge. From Siaya to Synergy to Nairobi, KEWOTA stood in the gap, and today, Jeckonia is home, recovering, and no longer alone.
KEWOTA on the Field: Ballgames, Sports & Wellness

From Nyamira Zonal Ballgames to Kiambu trainings for school sports coaches at Mang’u High, KEWOTA was present — cheering, recruiting, and supporting.
Water donations across Kisumu, Siaya and Kiambu made KEWOTA’s presence felt, ensuring teachers and learners stayed refreshed as they competed.
Teacher Recruitment, Made Easy

From Alliance Boys to Kisumu’s AGM halls, KEWOTA continued its aggressive recruitment drive. And the results? Positive. “Teachers are joining without hesitation,” reports from Kiambu confirm.
Dignity in Retirement: KEWOTA Shows Up for Our Own

KEWOTA gave two Siaya teachers a graceful retirement sendoff, with speeches, gifts, and tanks — yes, tanks, because water security is dignity too.
In Nyamira and elsewhere, KEWOTA celebrated retiring leaders who served with excellence. Our message is clear: You served us, and we honor you.
KEWOTA Showcases at Mentor Day & School Engagements
From showcasing our services at Mentor Education Day at Jamhuri High School (Nairobi), to school visits in Gachie and Alliance Boys, KEWOTA is building deeper school-level engagement.
Kadibo Junior Teachers AGM: Together, We Rise

KEWOTA honored an invitation to Kadibo’s JSS Teachers AGM, reaffirming our belief that when teachers unite, great things happen.
The upcoming Kisumu County Young Teachers’ Fun Day was also launched — and trust us, you’ll need rubber shoes and a tracksuit. It’s going to be unforgettable.
Final Word: KEWOTA Is More Than a NamE
Whether it’s backing national causes, consoling the grieving, empowering digital voices, or lifting the fallen — KEWOTA is your keeper.
And as we march into July, we do so with renewed energy, louder voices, and stronger hands.
