The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) Chief Executive Officer, Madam Benta Opande, joined mourners in Bondo to pay her final respects to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, Kenya’s long-serving statesman and champion of democracy.
Standing solemnly at his graveside, where the former Prime Minister was laid to rest, Opande’s voice trembled with emotion as she reflected on a life devoted to justice, unity, and the empowerment of ordinary Kenyans.
“I still cannot believe that Baba is no more,” she said softly. “His legacy will live on in the hearts of millions who believed in his dream for a better Kenya, a nation anchored on equality, freedom, and hope for all.”
She described Raila Odinga as a father figure whose courage and sacrifices shaped Kenya’s democratic journey, inspiring generations to believe that true leadership lies in service to others.
In her heartfelt message, Opande extended her deepest condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and the entire Odinga family, urging them to take comfort in the immense love, respect, and admiration being shown from every corner of the nation.
“Pole sana Mama Ida and the Odinga family,” she said tenderly. “May God grant you strength, peace, and grace during this difficult time.”
The solemn event was attended by a host of national and county leaders, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, and Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, among others. Together, they stood united in honoring the life and legacy of a man whose voice and vision transformed Kenya’s political and social landscape.
As the sun set over Bondo, Opande’s presence symbolized not only KEWOTA’s solidarity with the Odinga family but also the enduring bond between Kenya’s women leaders and those who have paved the way for a just and inclusive nation.
“Baba’s spirit,” she said, “will forever remind us that Kenya’s destiny is built on love, resilience, and the courage to stand for what is right.”
