The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) joined students, teachers, and education stakeholders at Ng’iya National Girls School to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, celebrated under the global theme, “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crisis.”
Representing KEWOTA CEO Madam Benter Opande, Deputy Coordinator for Kisumu Madam Jemima Okoth reaffirmed KEWOTA’s unwavering commitment to championing the rights and potential of the girl child through education, mentorship, and empowerment programs.
“When we invest in girls, we invest in the future of our communities. Girls are not just tomorrow’s leaders, they are the changemakers of today,” remarked Madam Opande in her message delivered by Madam Jemima.
She was accompanied by KEWOTA Insurance Chief Principal Officer Madam Sarah, Retirees Coordinator Truphena Saisi, and Homa Bay County Coordinator Mercy Adhiambo, who together presented a cash donation to the event organizer, Miss KEWOTA 2023, in support of ongoing empowerment activities at the school.
KEWOTA’s Impact: Empowering the Girl Child Beyond the Classroom
Beyond celebrating this important day, KEWOTA continues to make tangible, life-changing contributions toward the wellbeing and education of girls across Kenya. Through its Girl-Child Empowerment Program, KEWOTA has:
- Donated sanitary towels to hundreds of vulnerable girls from poor and marginalized backgrounds, ensuring that no girl misses school due to lack of menstrual hygiene products.
- Rescued girls from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriage, working hand in hand with KEWOTA County Coordinators, local chiefs, and law enforcement officers to provide safe shelter, counseling, and educational reintegration.
- Paid school fees for deserving girls from disadvantaged families, enabling them to continue their studies and pursue their dreams.
- Supported a gifted girl who received a scholarship abroad to study Astrophysics, by paying for her visa and travel expenses, ensuring she didn’t miss the opportunity of a lifetime.
Inspiring Change, Building Futures
Through these ongoing interventions, KEWOTA continues to reaffirm its belief that educating and protecting the girl child is the foundation for a stronger, more equitable society.
As the celebrations at Ng’iya National Girls School came to a close, one message stood out clearly: when girls are empowered, communities thrive, and KEWOTA remains firmly on the frontline of this transformation.
