As we celebrate educators, this edition reflects on the 2025 World Teachers’ Day gathering and the continued role of teachers in shaping Kenya’s future
On October 5, 2025, teachers, education leaders, students, parents, and well-wishers from across the country gathered at the Kasarani Indoor Arena to celebrate the noble profession of teaching during the global commemoration of World Teachers’ Day. The theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” highlighted the essential role of teachers in shaping minds and strengthening the nation’s social and moral foundation.
The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) joined the celebrations with a renewed call for unity and collaboration among educators. Representing the association, Chief Executive Officer Benter Opande reaffirmed KEWOTA’s dedication to advancing teachers’ welfare, professional growth, and gender equality across the education sector. She emphasized that collaboration among teachers is the cornerstone of a strong education system that thrives on shared learning, mutual respect, and collective support. KEWOTA continues to build professional communities where teachers exchange ideas, share experiences, and work together to enhance learning outcomes nationwide.
In alignment with this year’s theme, KEWOTA, through its Chief Executive Officer Benter Opande, underscored the importance of transforming teaching from an individual practice into a collaborative profession. By fostering partnerships among educators, administrators, parents, and communities, the organization believes that education can become more inclusive, responsive, and impactful. Opande noted that KEWOTA’s mentorship, peer learning, and capacity building programs continue to promote professional excellence and collective growth among teachers. Through these initiatives, the association remains a strong advocate for teamwork, innovation, and shared responsibility within the profession.
This year’s gathering reinforced the importance of collaboration in shaping the country’s education agenda. KEWOTA called for continued partnership among schools, communities, and education stakeholders to ensure teachers are supported, valued, and equipped to meet the evolving needs of twenty-first-century learners. By strengthening relationships across all levels of the education ecosystem, KEWOTA continues to play a pivotal role in driving collective progress, especially in empowering women educators and promoting equity in leadership opportunities.
In celebrating World Teachers’ Day, KEWOTA, led by CEO Benter Opande, extended heartfelt appreciation to all teachers across Kenya and beyond recognizing their daily sacrifices, creativity, and dedication to nurturing future generations. Through her message, Opande reaffirmed KEWOTA’s commitment to supporting teachers in every county, advancing gender equality, and fostering collaboration as the foundation of a vibrant and sustainable education system.
