KEWOTA Champions Environmental Stewardship at FIRST LADY’S Mazingira Awards 2025

The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) proudly joined national leaders, education stakeholders, and learners at the Mazingira Awards 2025 held at State House Nakuru.

The prestigious event graced by First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, brought together partners and institutions committed to environmental sustainability under the powerful theme:

“End Pollution — Conserve the Environment.”

KEWOTA was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Madam Benta Opande, through a KEWOTA delegation that carried the organization’s commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental awareness within Kenya’s education sector.

Nurturing Young Changemakers

The Mazingira Awards celebrate learners across Kenya who have demonstrated outstanding creativity and innovation in offering real solutions to environmental challenges.
From recycling and upcycling to tree planting and responsible waste management, these young environmental champions are proving that protecting nature begins with simple daily actions.

“These learners remind us that every effort counts — that small actions, when multiplied by millions of hearts, can change our world,” said a KEWOTA representative during the event.

KEWOTA’s Role in Promoting Environmental Education

KEWOTA’s participation in the Mazingira Awards aligns with its Education and Sustainability Program, which seeks to empower women teachers and learners to become champions of environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable community living.

Through school-based initiatives and awareness campaigns, KEWOTA continues to encourage teachers and students to adopt eco-friendly practices, ensuring that the message of environmental responsibility reaches every classroom across Kenya.

A Word of Appreciation

KEWOTA extends appreciation to the First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, Governor Susan Kihika, and all organizers of the Mazingira Awards for recognizing the transformative role of education in building a greener, cleaner Kenya.

Special thanks also go to KEWOTA CEO Madam Benta Opande for her leadership and trust in representation, and to the KEWOTA Executive Team for their continued support in advancing the association’s mission.
