The education community gathered today at Milimani Comprehensive School in Nairobi for a memorial service honouring two teachers who lost their lives in the recent tragic road accident in Ngara.
Faith Ndunge and Jacob King’oo were among teachers who died after a matatu reportedly lost control and rammed into educators gathered outside City Primary School during union elections, an incident that shocked the teaching fraternity across the country.
The memorial brought together education leaders, stakeholders, colleagues, learners, families and friends to celebrate the lives and service of the fallen teachers. Among those present was the KEWOTA CEO, who represented women teachers, alongside Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, the area MP, and other education stakeholders.
Speaking during the memorial service, the KEWOTA CEO conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and learners affected by the tragedy.
She noted that the loss of teachers goes beyond schools and classrooms and deeply affects the social fabric of the nation because teachers play a critical role in shaping lives and guiding future generations.
The CEO emphasized the importance of unity within the education sector during moments of grief and loss. She underscored that difficult times call for education stakeholders to stand together, offer support to affected families and colleagues, and strengthen collective care for teachers’ wellbeing.
She added that such moments remind the country of the value of educators and the need to continue prioritising their safety, welfare and mental health.
The memorial service offered a moment of reflection, prayer and solidarity as the education community continues to mourn the fallen teachers while celebrating their legacy of service and commitment to education.
KEWOTA once again extends sincere condolences to the families and school communities of Faith Ndunge and Jacob King’oo and continues to stand in solidarity with the entire teaching fraternity during this difficult period.

Brilliant, Thank you Kewota
